Spring Action Is Right Around the Corner

With all the rain this week, camp is greening up. Trees are budding, dafodills are blooming, and the grass is growing. It's time to get ready for summer!

Twice a year, Silver Lake hosts Action work weekends. As many as 80 volunteers pitch in for a weekend of camp cleanup in the fall and spring. Spring Action will be May 5-7, 2017.
There's always lots of work -- and fun! -- at Action weekend! Come lend a hand!

In addition to traditional Action work, like splitting and stacking wood, raking and picking up sticks, and moving picnic tables out of the Social Hall, Site Manager Greg Arifian has some special projects planned.

"We are going to build a new enclosure around the compost pile to minimize access to the area by wildlife," Greg said. "That will be the big project of the weekend. We're also going to treat the mahogany portions of the ampitheater."

There will be groups working in the garden with Pam Arifian, Director of the Northeast Environmental Justice Center, as well as in the kitchen with Chef Lynn Boettger.

"We are so grateful to our volunteers, who give up a weekend to work to get Silver Lake ready to welcome our summer conferees," said the Rev. Ryan Gackenheimer, Executive Director of Silver Lake. "Without their work, we would have a much harder time getting the physical site ready to host the life-changing ministry of Silver Lake. We truly couldn't do it without them."

There is still time to sign up to join the crew at Spring Action. If you are in high school, you can register online through your Silver Lake registration account; the cost is $45. If you are an adult, please RSVP to jennc@ctucc.org. There is no charge for adult participants, but donations are accepted to offset the cost of food.
