Silver Lake Welcomes Guy Gnerre as Administrator

When you call into Silver Lake, you will be greeted by a new voice. Guy Gnerre started work as Administrator on March 22 and has begun learning the ropes.

“Everyone I’ve met has been so friendly and welcoming,” Gnerre said. His first weekend at camp coincided with the annual Maple Sugaring retreat for 6th through 8th graders, so he got a preview of what to expect with the summer program.

As Administrator, Gnerre is responsible for greeting guests, whether on the phone, over email, or in person. He is also the summer camp Registrar, and will guide families through the registration process, helping with selecting conferences, scholarship requests, and navigating the required forms. At Sunday check-in this summer, you will find him at Platform 9 ¾. He will also help with fundraising, communications, and other administrative tasks.

“I am really excited to have Guy as the new Silver Lake Administrator,” said Rev. Ryan Gackenheimer, Executive Director. “His energy and passion will add to the Silver Lake community, strengthening relationships with campers and retreat guests. Guy is already living the Silver Lake ‘Loves’ and it will be great to have his experience and connections in the local community brought to the Lake.”

Gnerre was most recently the manager of an on-campus bookstore at an area private school. In that role, he oversaw employees and students who worked in the bookstore and was responsible for inventory and promotion. He was a member of a number of professional organizations, including serving as Director of the Northeast Campus Stores Association.

While Gnerre is new to summer camp, he is not new to working with youth, having mentored students through the campus work program. He said he is excited to work with the summer staff and to get to know the campers who come through each summer.

“I was attracted to Silver Lake because I like the idea of seeing how kids are being affected by what happens here,” he said. “They are learning to take care of each other, their communities, their environment, and build new friendships in a judgement-free environment that is open and welcoming to all. It’s such a breath of positive energy in what feels like a very negative world right now.”

Gnerre lives in nearby Lime Rock, CT, with his wife, Kim, his daughter, Lorelei, and their Chihuahua, Molly. Gnerre is a movie buff, and says, “I’m not a drummer, but I like to play drums.”
