Silver Lake Maintains Accreditation from American Camp Association

The American Camp Association® (ACA) announced that Silver Lake Camp & Retreat Center – located in Sharon, CT and operated by the Southern New England Conference of the United Church of Christ – has received ACA-Accredited® Camp status for the 2024 season (November 2023-October 2024.)   

Initially accredited in October 2019, Silver Lake has complied with the highest standards in the industry to maintain accreditation each year. The site visit in July 2023 included a thorough review (up to 266 standards) of its operation by the American Camp Association (ACA) – from staff qualifications and training to emergency management.

ACA is the only independent accrediting organization reviewing camp operations in the country. ACA's nationally recognized standards program focuses primarily on the program quality, health and safety aspects of a camp's operation. ACA collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at the camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. Founded in 1957, Silver Lake welcomed the first summer campers in the years that followed. In the 1960s and 1970s, four year-round retreat buildings were built, allowing Silver Lake to host retreats in the fall, winter, and spring, and to expand summer camp offerings. Today, Silver Lake offers 1-week and half-week overnight summer camp experiences to youth and families, and hosts adult, youth, and intergenerational retreat groups year-round.
